40 students share first three ranks in S.S.L.C. examination

CHENNAI: The State Board class X examination results declared here on Friday saw a total of 40 students share the first three ranks in the S.S.L.C. stream, and 33 share the first three ranks in the Matriculation stream.
According to the results declared by the Directorate Government Examinations, over 9.5 lakh students, including private candidates, appeared for the examination.
They recorded a pass percentage of 85.3, an increase of 2.8 percentage points from last year.
While girls secured pass percentage of 88.1, boys recorded pass percentage of 82.3. Senior officials of the Directorate said it was surprising that so many students figured in the list of State toppers.
Five students — M. Nithya of Sacred Heart Girls' Higher Secondary School, Srivilliputtur, S. Ramya of Gurukulam Higher Secondary School, Gobichettipalayam, S. Sangeetha of S.R.M. Muthamil Higher Secondary School, Periyeri, M. Minnaladevi, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Cheyyar and R. Harini, Our Lady's Higher Secondary School, Thiruvottiyur — of the S.S.L.C. stream, stood first in the State scoring a total of 496 marks.

As many as 11 students secured the second rank scoring 495 marks each, while 24 students were at the third spot, scoring 494 marks each.
Of the students who secured the first three ranks, five were from government schools situated in semi-urban and rural areas such as Cheyyar, Kavaraipettai, Kavindapadi, Karimangalam and Pattukottai.
A total of 12,532 students scored centum in mathematics. Last year, 2,399 students scored full marks in the subject.
Matriculation stream
Students of the Matriculation stream also made a mark in the examinations, not just in terms of the number of students securing top ranks, but also with regard to overall pass percentage.
The students recorded a pass percentage of 95.9.
None of the three students who secured the first rank in the stream were from the Salem-Namakkal belt, which has come to be known as “topper districts,” producing a good number of high scorers ever year.
The first rank holders, this year, were from Tiruppur, Erode and Dharmapuri. While 6,178 students scored full marks in mathematics, 2,072 scored centum in science.
Anglo Indian and OSLC
Students of the Anglo Indian stream recorded a 95.5 per cent pass, while 94.4 per cent of the students in the O.S.L.C. stream passed the examination.
